You wanted to write this entire piece just to use -- a less penetrative experience -- didn't you? LOL.

Wonderfully descriptive article.

My relationship with Mexico started in a very different place but has landed in a similar spot.

I grew up in Colorado, which has has a very strong Hispanic/Spanish influence -- Colorado, anyone? -- but because it was so nearby I pretty much overlooked it because it was just always there.

And if I'm honest, I was influenced by all the negative media images and flat out bigotry.

But having now spent well over a year living in different locations in Mexico, it's one of my favorite countries.

Yeah, Michael, I agree about Mexico. How I underestimated it and took it for granted growing up, only later to discover what an incredible place it was. It would always make the list of my "Top 5" countries.
